The Trustee Board is a team of volunteers who work together to make sure Scouts is run safely and legally.
Together, Trustees make sure the charity is well managed, risks are assessed and mitigated, buildings and equipment are in good working order, and everyone follows legal requirements and Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) of the Scout Association. Their support helps other volunteers run a fantastic programme that gives young people skills for life (and experiences they’ll remember forever).
We are looking for more people to join the Trustee Board, particularly younger people who can help shape the activities of the Scout Group to appeal to a new generation of scouters.

I am 71 and after a career until 40 in accountancy I set up a new business some 25 years ago but retired as MD a couple of years ago but continue to control the finances. The business is in the supply chain with warehouses and fulfilment and logistics based in Sussex, albeit these days I live in Marden.
Since semi-retiring my interests are mostly sports, playing tennis, golf and pickle-ball as well as fishing and enjoying my rather large garden. I also have a passion for art, as in painting.
I have existing connections to charities and I am currently vice chairman of Maidstone churches winter shelter for the homeless. I also previously served as a trustee for the chartered institute of logistics and transport.
My wife and I have volunteered at various places both here and abroad and to name a few:
The centre for rehabilitation of the paralysed in Bangladesh.
Crisis at Christmas in London.
Chicks (holidays for children who care for adults).
PS I was in scouting with cubs and scouts from 7-18 and a claim to fame is meeting Ralph Reader whilst playing the white rabbit in Alice in wonderland some 60 years ago!
I was born in south London and in 1970, I started work in Knightsbridge as a Trainee Secretary at a pharmaceutical company. With the exception of 2 years maternity leave when my daughter was born, I worked as a Secretary/PA in central London for various companies including a shipping line, a freight trade newspaper and a chartered accountancy practice.
We moved to Staplehurst in 1978 when my daughter started at Staplehurst CP School and in 1980 I joined a lift company in Maidstone before returning to London in 1982 as Secretary to the Deputy Secretary of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
Subsequently, I held other positions including Professional Development Manager with responsibility for all education and training activities worldwide and Member Services Manager, with responsibility for all membership and related matters in the UK and overseas. For 2 years, I held both positions.
From 1999 – 2024, I was a Trustee of a small animal re homing charity (Animal Samaritans) and also held the position of Hon. Secretary. We had no paid staff and I and two other Trustees handled all the requirements of the charity’s work. In 2019, it was decided to employ a part-time bookkeeper. I am aware of a Trustee’s responsibilities and understand the importance of working within a framework – in the case of Animal Samaritans it was a Trust Deed written in 1986.
