Welcome

In 2023 the 1st Staplehurst Scout Group celebrated its 80th year of providing scouting experiences to young people in the village. We are open to boys and girls aged from 4 to 14.

The Scout Group is managed entirely by volunteers. The Group is governed by an Trustee Board (new name for the Executive Committee) which is made up of uniformed section leaders and executive officers. Uniformed leaders run the sections and organise the programs. The Trustee Board are responsible for the management of the Group, its assets, finances and resources.

Staplehurst Scout Group is a registered charity and the Trustee Board are also the Trustees. The Scout Group is an educational charity.  The full list of Trustees is maintained on the Charity Commission website.  As charity trustees, they are responsible for complying with legislation applicable to charities. This includes the registration, keeping proper accounts and making returns to the Charity Commission as appropriate.

The Scout Group Trustee Board consists of 3 independent representatives, Chair, Treasure, and Secretary, together with the Group Scout Leader, individual Section Leaders and parents' representation and meets each seasonal academic term (3 times per year).

This Trustee Board supports the Group Scout Leader in meeting the responsibilities of the appointments and is responsible for:

  • The maintenance of Group property;
  • The raising of funds and the administration of Group finance;
  • The insurance of persons, property and equipment;
  • Group public occasions;
  • Assisting in the recruitment of leaders and other adult support;
  • Appointing any sub Boards that may be required; and
